Rite of the Omega Empty Rite of the Omega

Post by Kate Stein Mon May 23, 2011 7:33 pm

Hello Everyone! There seemed to be a little confusion on Saturday about how, exactly, Rite of the Omega works. Even though it will make things much worse for my poor little PC, I wanted to post the details of the Rite just to everyone has a better understanding of how to roleplay the effects.

----

Rite of the Omega (Intermediate)
It is often the duty of the Ragabash to add levity and defuse a tense situation. When division and anger threatens the unity of the sept, some Ragabash choose the dangerous and often sacrificial Rite of the Omega. Once it is performed successfully, the ritemaster becomes reviled; everything she says or does steps on the last nerve of everyone in the sept (plus any visitors there at the time the rite begins). Elders put her to work and punish her for being slack, and the Ahroun want to practice their Ragabash-throwing skills. Even the lowest metis says, “Sucks to be you.” The ritemaster will be driven from kills, suffer beatings if she isn’t quick and may even have her gear stolen or damaged for spite’s sake. Even her own pack treats her like dirt. All the tension and hate and anger that threatened to tear the sept apart is now directed at one individual, bringing unity and catharsis to the Garou. The effects last a minimum of one day, although for an ongoing situation the Ragabash may continue to play the ultimate omega to ensure harmony.

Using her own blood mixed with the soil from the caern site, the ritemaster inscribes the Garou glyph for Shame on her chest and intones a chant. If successful, the Ragabash drops to Rank One for the duration of the rite. If the tension in the sept is the result of a singular event (a death, a divisive challenge, etc), the rite’s effects last a single day. In the case of an ongoing crisis (intersept negotiations or a heated concolation), the rite may last as long as a week. At the end of the rite, the glyph disappears and the Ragabash’s Rank is restored and hopefully some decent treatment to make up for the sacrifice. The sept members will be more inclined to compromise and have greater understanding of opposing views, staying unified for a time. The put-upon ritemaster may end the rite prematurely simply by wiping the glyph away and shouting “I’ve had enough!” but loses renown and, and worse, the sept loses all benefits of the rite.

So in other words even if someone holds Kate in high respect and considers her a true friend all those feelings get pushed to the side. I'm not too sure how Starrie's gonna handle this. Kate's her girl. OH boy!

It's been a real challenge playing it out with Keith already. Being in love with her and finding her contemptible is tough.

Yeah, I figured it would be a bit of a challenge and that's why I tossed the Rite description up to help a little.

Just image how hard it is for me. I need to figure out how Kate is going to deal with getting treated like this by everyone and how she will be dealing with them after the Rite is over. *headdesk*

If I'm reading this correctly, sept mates that weren't there when the rite was performed will still be under its effects, and visitors that weren't will not. So if Grip hypothetically showed up the day after this was performed, he wouldn't hate the ritemaster. Yes?

The Rite is harsh, yo.

And it affects anyone who considers the Sept their home? Making absolutely sure before the feces hits the oscillatory rotor.

Yuppers. Members of the Sept and people who are visiting when the Rite is performed.

So its not so much as a supernatural thing...Its an avenue to blame things on. Kinda like the irrational drunken husband blaming his wife for loosing his job. "If you'd cook dinner on time, I would be happier when I go to work in the morning."

I figure the drive to feel the negative emotions are supernatural, but it is up to the individual on how they choose to carry it out. I dunno. I trust people to react accordingly.

It's a hard one to role play... especially when there are other compulsions and things on sheet that affect an individuals behavior (i.e. merits like True Love and Code of Honor)

I hope that STs will point out to those individuals if they are over or under doing it. If it was the standard one day affair it wouldn't be as bad, but because it's a whole month the RP is hard for everyone. (I think it will be good story though)

The way I see it, is that Kate might get a few extra bruises from Christian from sparring. Smile

Yeah, if she survives the Rite I expect the interactions afterwards to be interesting.

And...btw, I would rather not just assume people are treating her like garbage. If you want sparring (or beating, stealing, etc) to happen, please either start a thread or send me an email.

On the subject of this rite, let me say it physically hurt to write Essence's response to her.

My heart, it hurts.
