Crazy Retests.
So I haven't been playing in the ORG terribly long.
But I have seen some crazy shit, including some odd retests. Such as people saying "fetish" for a combat retest or "retest" for a retest, or "rites" for a retest.
WTF is this.
Tell me some stories.
Regards,
Dolan.

Re: Crazy Retests.
Jeff Hudson, the guy who plays Lars from Iowa, has been an ST in Cedar Rapids for over 4 years. He was once famous for reaching into the air and announcing a retest for his NPCs that he would not state what it was or what you could cancel with.
So the counter was invented, which is for the player to reach behind him and with a motion that looks like you are freeing something from your rectum you announce "cancel".

Re: Crazy Retests.
If you make a fetish that gives you free retests in combat, it's a fair thing.
Now, here's the most intense I've ever seen.
Trait.
Ability.
Fetish.
Luck.
Fortune.
Fate.
Fair Fortune.
Auspicious Birth.
Willpower.
Overbid.
On one challenge.

Auspicious Birth does not yield a retest. Feh.

In the words of every player/ST in Wisconsin - "there's no bylaw against it".

Re: Crazy Retests.
So I find this crazy theurge who is willing to make me a Serrated Claw fetish of the Red Talon Dwarvish lords, he can make the thing give me a retest that works like LARP Potence 2 'might' as long as an ST gives it a blessing?
Come on...
Come on...

1. Merits don't stack.
2. There is magic in werewolf. You get to make magic items. A fetish that gives a retest isn't the most offensive fetish I've ever seen.
3. Wise men do not say baggu. (If you finna use my word, come correct.)

Yes. Yes you did. And I want to throw something at the one who stacked all of those things together. Something heavy. Or sharp. Or heavy and sharp. HATE.

Holl atcha boi, Fred!
No, but in total seriousness... the free retest isn't anywhere near the most offensive thing in the org. I'm sure any number of use have stories of the things we've seen that would make your butt pucker.

Re: Crazy Retests.
Far as I know, the only thing more powerful than retests are automatic successes...though I'd be interested in hearing about these crazier things people know of.
I remember hearing a story about one player who outright beat an ST's NPC on 13 retests for a single challenge. The ST ended up fiating that the effect still happened, and the player opted to not come to game for awhile after that, till the ST stepped down.
Such is life.

Re: Crazy Retests.
I'm okay with narration if the ST feels its appropriate. I play Apocalypse for the character driven storys and because I enjoy acting and creative writing. Rock-Paper-Scissors is just a necessary evil to represent the element of chance.
Haven't run into any issues with this at HA,WP, or EM.
I didn't make this thread to bitch about retests or those that use them. I am honestly just interested to hear some stories about them. Especially the odd-balls.

Re: Crazy Retests.
There is some really crazy stuff out there. I will say that the stuff that I (or my PC) use depends on the game style. I tend to need and ues lots more crazy talens and fetishes in EM than I do in HA. I tend to run things in WP that don't need that kind of stuff either. Often, the use of all of those things distracts from the story.

Re: Crazy Retests.
That's a truism. Different games/ST styles call for different types of characters/reactions using the rules system.

Re: Crazy Retests.
Well there was this one time in this D&D adventuring group with an Oriental Adventures background where a lot of us were on a quest to recover a scroll that would bring back our Emperor for he was Assassinated....!

Whoa. Whoa.
That totally didn't happen like that.
He was like an eighth vampire. Enough to qualify for the Feat.
