The Curse (A Garou's Rage and the emotions it evokes) does not effect Kinfolk, correct?

I was being a voyeur on the Starrie/Essence in the kitchen (d'aw! How cute!) and saw the kinfolk mentioning the Rage. I'm aware that it could be a character quirk, but as a rule, "The Curse" only effects the Flock, yes?

The way I'm led to understand it, Kin won't get that "OMFG they are going to EAT ME" feeling that a typical guy sitting next to a Garou with 10 Rage would - the same way they won't succumb to the Delerium when seeing a Chrinos. However, and again this is me taking what I understand about their very nature, they can still feel the "wow, dude - you've got enough Rage to kill me and half my family" part of it. That's what I was focusing on.

But yeah, a typical dude on that porch:

Around here the BBS was FYIowa. They only allowed a username to be on two hours a day. Hence why I had 12 usernames. Smile

Also, I found a site you may be interested in if you played the old MUDs:

MUDs were my answer to people playing things like EverQuest... since my parents thought it was dumb to pay a monthly subscription fee.

Ruling: Kinfolk cannot detect a surfeit or lack of Rage, either. That's the purview of a basic Gift and isn't given for free to Kin. Kin aren't affected by the Curse or the Delirium.

Kin don't get to use Rage as a detection method.

While I generally share Wasta's viewpoint of the whole Rage thing, I know that it is a mistranslation of how a kinfolk reacts to a Crinos garou versus actual Delirium. At somepoint we roleplaying minded individuals shorted that synapse into the Rage Curse affect sector of our gamer memories.

In the book it explains that a kinfolk isn't subject to the Delirium, however, they aren't completely unphased by a garou in Crinos, either. It is just as appropriate for a kinfolk, sans delirium, to crap their pants and run screaming into the night from a giant ten foot tall clawed-and-fanged monster. Just because the supernatural fear is absent doesn't mean the REAL fear has to be.

After all, you are still squishy and easily broken by such a monster without their oh-so-handy regeneration.

Nowhere does it provide the same scaling for Rage.

Sorry for the minor thread necromancy.

Point for Shonn. But I believe the thread was instigated by a scene where Crinos form wasn't a factor. I think it's totally awesome for any creature of any type to lose his s#!%, non-magically, upon seeing a werewolf in War Form.

Curious segue to another idle thought, though. STs, can kinfolk learn and use non-tribe, non-Homid Gifts in Heartland Alliance? It occurred to me that Empathy of Hatred (a Basic Ahroun Gift that does not require Gnosis or Rage) could be a useful power in a kinfook's arsenal, if they were able to be taught the Gift. (It allows the user to determine the amount of Rage a creature has.)

As someone who did extensive research into the kinfolk learning gifts/doing rites I can say that much of your answer is in Player's Guide to Garou or the Table Top core book, though, I cannot speak for the STs of this game(obviously). It says that Kinfolk learning a Gift is rare, and would be just that, A gift. Any more than one would be unheard of, according to the book. And it also mentions that without being Gnostic or otherwise special the Gift must be powered by Willpower, and that kinfolk can never learn a gift fueled by Rage.

As for Rites I can link you sources but it says that kinfolk may learn Rites but not enact them(one exception: the one that turns them into Skindancers). It explains that kinfolk do not have a pact with spirits therefore the spirits do not empower their rites, however, they may learn them and in turn teach them to Garou who could then perform the Rite.

Lastly, somewhere I once read a passage about vampires having to make a willpower or courage test against a Garou's Rage or risk fear-frenzy. I do not have the citation on hand.

I generally roleplay anything non-Garou as bugging the eff out when it sees a Crinos garou.

I guess, with the name of the aforementioned gift, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me for a kinfolk to be able to learn said gift. Empathy of Hatred implies that, due to your experience with your own Rage (5, as it's basic Ahroun) and knowing the feeling of it, that you can detect and measure another's. Or that would be my viewpoint of it. I is no ST, however, and bow to the Gods.
