About that time again. (Moot)

So what are people thinking? Next game, or the game after?

For the most part, I don't enjoy these things anymore. So I guess I don't care which.

Wanna know what I enjoy about them? The food. Yeah, that's completely it. So, I'm with Truman.

Agreed. We do a pretty good job of getting the scandal/justice out and stories can be told pretty much anytime to anyone who wants to hear them.

Food is awesome though.

If your haiku is truth, does this mean the PCs get to decide the moon phase whenever they clamor for a moot? In H.A., do moots have any bearing on Renown gain or loss? That could serve as an impetus to run or not run a moot, I'm thinking...

OK. Traditional moots require a full moon. Do game sessions need to conform with real life full moons in order to have a traditional moot (i.e. the kind of moot that actually replenishes the caern and its totem)?

Also, even if stories got told and disputes settled outside moots, having the whole Sept gathered when a story gets told(which I want to actually do this time, unlike the last) and having your disputes handled openly it's a completely different beast. One I actually enjoy, when we don't skip the fun parts and shove it into the second half of game.

As for discussing it ooc, Moot is supposed to be happening once a month anyways on the full moon to energize the Caern, if I'm remembering everything correctly. I understand it would suck for RP is we literally did one every other game session to meet the book standard. I think we all just assume those are done off screen and deals with all the little crap. IC the date is already determined for us. We just have to agree when everyone is willing to do it ooc, and it helps us arrange the whole pot luck aspect of it.

Just out of curiousness, why have you guys stopped giving a crap?

A moot is required every month per the book if you want to be all technical-like.

We are willing to augment game forward/backward a few days to reflect the full moon. However it is in the hands of the PCs involved to tell us when that is. This may impact rites learned.

We have always had the belief that Moots are going to be in the hands of the players to decide. This was made clear at the beginning (we thought) when we stated that we wern't going to determine when your moots were, we were expecting you to determine when your moots were.

We like seeing things at least seasonal as it gives people a chance to get a boost on renown and even a boost to a rank challenge. However, you won't hear us forcing you.

Jonah! I wanted more haiku's!!

Moots tend to be long winded and boring and for the most part devoid of the ability to really roleplay. During the cracking of the bone everyone has to be quiet unless they're particularly being targeted and during the stories everyone has to listen to the Galliards talk. That would be fine if any of us were master storytellers but none of us have that ability or distinction. Then once that's over, there's combat. Now the ST's have been nice enough to mostly narrate that in the past but still. It's a game that's dedicated to throwing chops or sitting around and listening instead of actually playing and having fun.

Doing it on the boards might be a compromise?

Not to mention it would take weeks even months to do it on the boards. Stuff that would happen during moot (if there's a lot of clashing) will effect IC interactions that would change game to game because of something new that happened at moot.

Boards: Great for downtime talking between characters, terrible for everything else that requires chopping.

Stories on the boards significantly cuts down on the time that it takes to run a moot AND Is always more interesting. Maybe we could do that, if a moot is a necessary thing.

Yeah, what she said ^ And her too^^ Moots have just always tended to bore me to tears. It's just one long winded moment after another. 'Bout the most interesting thing is if certain tribes have enough in one sept, you can get tribal moots going on (Shadow Lord moots? Interesting? Say it ain't so...) Other than that? Yeah, not much.

So then make them more interesting? Call lots of scandal. Call ALL the scandal!

Moots can be fun, just depends on how much effort everyone wants to put it. If half the game doesn't want to do it, then of course it's gonna be boring. >>

Sorry - I'm not willing to cut the nuts from the Galliards. They deserve to shine.

I personally think the Galliard's shine brighter on the boards than in person. Yes, I know I am talking about myself.

Agreed. Writing a story is a lot easier than trying to tell a story, for most people. But, I'm not a Galliard in this game, soooo...to the Galliards go the debate.

Ragabash shine too if they're doing a good job and calling scandal *coughtendingthysickcough*

Why doesn't everything just happen on the boards then?

Edit: You can write stuff out beforehand and read what you have and say "This paper isn't here."

Writing it out and then reading is almost worse than just going off the cuff. It's certainly the most infuriating to sit and listen to in my opinion.

They have done. It's still boring for everyone else not directly involved.

I think it should but then Jonah gets sad and we don't want Jonah sad.

Stories still come down to player effort, if half the people don't want to put in the effort then it will be a shitty time.

That's not true at all. Players can put all the effort they want into it but if they don't have the skill of storytelling it'll be boring for all involved. I know very few people that have that particular skill. Myself included. All the effort in the world doesn't actually change that.
